The AQI is an index for reporting daily air quality. It tells us how clean or polluted air is, and what associated health effects might be a concern for us. EPA calculates the AQI for five major air pollutants like; O3, PM2.5, PM10, CO, SO2 & NO2 and set a range of AQI values between 0 to 500. The higher the AQI value, the greater the level of air pollution and greater the health concern. EPA has assigned a Specific color to each AQI category to make it easier for people to understand quickly whether air pollution is reaching unhealthy levels in their communities. The main purpose of AQI is to help us understand what local air quality means to our health. EPA calculated AQI values and categorized it into six categories corresponding to health concern. The particular colors are also given for each category so that one can easily understand the meaning of AQI. Generally, every people in a community are not aware of the pollutants, its effects & concentration of a pollutant and what level of concentration can cause serious health effects. But the introduction of AQI makes people to easily understand the level of Unhealthiness or hazardousness. Hence AQI is a representation of the concentration of the pollutants which is used to communicate with the society by Environmental Pollution Control Board or other authorities. AQI & Category: 0-50 Good, 51-100 Moderate, 101-150 Unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151-200 Unhealthy, 201-300 Very unhealthy, 301-400 Hazardous, 401-500 Hazardous.
